Dear Sharon and Andrew,

Here are some ideas to help with brainstorming the Animal Liberation Charter. It is wonderful to know that we share the same vision. We are way out there you know. Most people I talk to about this just roll their eyes. But I know we're in the midst of a massive shift in consciousness, and we need to keep holding this vision. I do believe with all my heart that holding the vision will move the global consciousness in the direction of compassion. People want it, but so many don't believe it's possible or that it wouldn't be "fun". So thanks,  Sharon and Andrew for doing this.

May Love and Compassion Prevail for all Beings,

Ideas for basic premise of Charter

  1. We are choosing to evolve in the direction of full spiritual consciousness. We are spiritual beings blessed with eternal oneness, power, love, creativity, perfection, and divinity. We are rising from the status of competitive survivors to becoming gentle, compassionate lovers of this miracle known as Mother Earth. We are expanding our Circle of Compassion to include all of God's creation, the entire family of earth.

  2. We, human residents of Earth, hereby recognize that animals are not property and, therefore, cannot be owned, bought, sold, abused, killed, or discarded. Animals share this planet with us and have rights equal to ours for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

  3. We agree that our relationship with animals is one of total non-violence. Therefore, we hereby take the Sacred Vow of Harmlessness (also known as Ahimsa). This is a Vow which has been taken in many religions and also by Gandhi, as well as by healers and physicians who promise: "Above all, do no harm." Now, therefore, we join them in taking this Sacred Vow. In doing so, we promise that we shall cause no pain, no injury, no suffering to life in any form. Gandhi said "...the only means for the realization of Truth [and God is Truth] is Ahimsa."

List of Ethics

  1. We do not kill or maim animals for consumption,, clothing, sport, profit, or any other purpose.

  2. We do not steal, pollute, or destroy their homes.

  3. We do not use them in entertainment or experiments.

  4. We do not steal their food or the food of their children; I.e., their mothers' milk.

  5. We do not confine them in cages, pools, or other cruel environments in which they cannot live according to their true nature.

  6. We do not separate them from their families.

  7. We do communicate with them whenever possible in respectful ways. We apologize to them for the ceaseless violence that has come to them at the hands of humans. We pray for them. We thank them, and we seek to understand them and to listen respectfully to their wisdom.

  8. We do assist them in any way necessary if our assistance is truly needed. Very often, they want to help us, and we gratefully acknowledge and receive their help.

  9. We seek to assist ranchers, hunters, fishermen, scientists, and others, and we seek to assist all the animals who interact with those humans, in this gentle and divine transformation into a compassionate, loving world.

  10. We live on this earth in friendship, peace, cooperation, respect, compassion, and love with our brothers and sisters, the animals.

HOLDING THE VISION FOR A WORLD
ENCIRCLED WITH PEACE AND LOVE

Until we extend our circle of compassion to include all living things, we will not ourselves find peace. Albert Schweitzer (paraphrased)

WE, the human residents of this beautiful, blue-green Planet Earth, do hereby declare that all of creation is sacred and interconnected. We know that all the stones, the mountains, the trees, the birds, the fish, the bears, the wind, the sun, all-that-is and we, ourselves, are worthy of awe and wonder. Whatever happens to one of us, happens to us all. We understand that the Divine Creator is Love and exists in everything, everywhere, making every being an embodiment of Divine Love.

WE recognize that we can choose to evolve in the direction of full spiritual consciousness. We are spiritual beings blessed with eternal oneness, power, love, creativity, perfection, and divinity. We are rising from the status of competitive survivors to becoming gentle, compassionate caretakers of this miracle known as Planet Earth. We are expanding our circle of compassion to include all of God's creation, the entire family of earth.

WE hold the vision that, with God's unfailing Love and Assistance, we can create a world free of hunger and poverty and prejudice; a world free of war and violence against the earth, against animals, and against human beings; a world free of hatred and fear.

WE will use our power in our roles as parents, teachers, investors, consumers, voters, and active participants in life to promote harmlessness and compassion for all beings, peace and justice, environmental sustainability, and to do our part to help life evolve to its full flowering in spiritual consciousness. In Mother Teresa's words, "Let us conquer the world with our love."

WE commit ourselves to hold this vision close to our hearts and to pray
this prayer:

Oh, Divine One, we give thanks continually to You for loving us so completely and, thereby, showing us how to encircle the Earth with Love and Compassion as you encircle us. May Love, Peace, and Compassion for all Beings be expressed everywhere on Earth. Amen
